Push Push Push

A push-up counter for iPhone. The phone lies on the floor, screen up, and measures the distance from the screen to your face with the Face ID depth sensor. A rep is the fall and the rise of that distance.

Requires an iPhone with a TrueDepth (Face ID) camera.

Using it

Put the phone on the floor, screen up. While it is upright the app draws a down arrow and the button reads PHONE DOWN.

Get into position over it. Once the phone is flat, the field shows what the sensor can see — the bright shape is you. Put it in the middle. Flat alone is not enough: the phone has to be under you.

Wait for the tick, then start. Settling into position starts the set by itself. There is nothing to tap.

Lift the phone to finish. The set is saved and added to the day.

If a rep is miscounted, the + and − marks beside the count correct the set you just finished, up to three reps either way.

Known issue

If you begin push-ups the instant you are in position, the first rep or two may not be counted — the app spends about two seconds confirming your placement before it starts counting. Waiting for the tick avoids it. This is being worked on.

Questions, bugs, or a set that counted wrong: uanian+push@gmail.com

If a set counted wrong, the app can send the recording it made. Open the day in the journal, tap the set, and choose Export — it produces a file with what every sensor reported, frame by frame. That file is what makes a miscount diagnosable instead of a guess.
